Perfume is Passion
The Original inventors of perfume were trying to create an aphrodisiac. In many ways they were successful, at the very least creating an olfactory lure that attracts and binds. The history and future of perfume pretty much parallel one another in keeping with that original goal. Today, perfume is deeply intertwined with human history and intrinsic in our day to day lives. So we ask, Why? What is this magic, alchemic substance that can so easily, so effectively sway our perceptions?
The answer varies, depending on who you ask. Or which channel you pursue technical, medical, alternative, sensual - each will give you a different answer. But no matter who you ask, watch nostrils twitch when you walk in wearing a classic scent. Perfume triggers memories lodged deep within the brain, unlocking events that transcend time, memories so concrete and so powerful that thoughts and feelings locked away for decades trigger emotional responses that range from sensual to culinary, from loves long forgotten to the lawns of our childhoods. That favorite aunt, Dad’s soap of aftershave, our mother’s kitchen. And so goes fragrance. Perfume. Scent.
It seeps into hidden areas of our brain, which seems to covet the experience. It lodges invisibly and indefinitely to be released for infinite reasons. You catch a whiff of something. You remember a sensation. A caress. A kiss. An embrace. It’s all triggered by a scent. An olfactory memory. This most indelible, permanent of all memories is also the highest expression of a woman; delicate, innocent and erotic.
This book is a literary shrine to scent and sensuality. Simply put, perfume is passion. Enjoy exploring the adventure in scent.
